Review: Le Meridien Chiang Mai

This was my first time staying at a SPG property since 2013. The Marriott takeover has made it easy for me to consolidate my points and extended my Platinum status to SPG. While I tend to choose classic Marriott brands over SPG, I will definitely be more apt to looking into SPG properties going forward.

This was the only Marriott or SPG property in all of Chiang Mai so the choice was easy. The hotel is also centrally located in Chiang Mai with night life and shopping all within walking distance.

Upon check in the front desk associate noticed I was a Platinum member and directed me to the elevators to complete the process in the Le Meridien Club (Concierge/Executive Lounge). While seated and enjoying a cold Diet Coke Light the associate checked us in and mentioned we’ve been upgraded to a corner suite on the top floor.

The room was very nice and not over the top ornate like some older luxury hotels (St Regis, Mandarin Oriental, etc). The living area has a desk, mini bar, and Bose stereo.

The bedroom had a king bed with a full couch.

The bathroom had a huge tub, separate shower room, his and her vanity, toilet room, and wardrobe.

The Le Meridien Club serves breakfast starting at 6 AM and has a small but decent spread. There are hot and cold food items, eggs made to order, and soft drinks. Coffee and tea are also served to your table.

This particular property also lets guest eat breakfast at the restaurant for no additional charge. The breakfast buffet is a bit more extensive including additional hot items, made to order pancakes and waffles, and fresh juices. If you’re just looking for the basics (eggs, cereal) then the Le Meridien Club is likely a better choice due to a calmer ambiance.

SPG Platinum members get 20% off restaurant bills which is a nice perk. General members get 10% off, and Gold gets 15%. Additionally, SPG Platinum members get 30% off so bookings which saves a decent amount of money (I’m not sure on the savings for other tiers).

Survey Says

The Le Meridien Chiang Mai is a great hotel. The staff were excellent and the location is great for exploring Chiang Mai. Additionally, the rates are responsible. If back in Chiang Mai, I would book this hotel again.
