Review: San Francisco Airport Marriott Waterfront

I tried once before to stay at this hotel before a flight and the rates were 450+ per night which is insane. When I saw this hotel for 150 inclusive of taxes, I booked right away! I’ve always had my eye on this hotel. Apart of the convenience of being an airport hotel, it was recently remodeled with the new Marriott look. Boy was this hotel stunning!I was quickly checked in and told I’d have a view of the bay (and more importantly to me, the runways at SFO). The lobby of the hotel has large glass windows and the natural light and views of the bay were beautiful.I headed up to my room which turned out to be between a junior suite and a regular suite. While there wasn’t distinct rooms to separate the¬†bedroom and living area, there was a half wall divider. The living area had a couch, desk, and TV.The bedroom had a king bed, TV, and open closet concept. This particular room was next to the ice machine which unfortunately was getting some heavier than expected foot traffic. Both rooms had amazing views of the bay and SFO runways. As soon as I checked in, there was a Lufthansa A380 taxiing! The bathroom was nothing special. With the updated remodel the tub has been removed for a shower stall. However, the the only place to put any toiletries in the shower was a low shelf which seemed odd. Additionally, the automatic light sensor would turn the light off when I was in the shower (I don’t even take long showers).Back down on the first floor was the M Lounge. The space was nice and had a buffet which serves breakfast, and evening appetizers. Breakfast service started at 6 AM. While I think that is fine for most hotels, that doesn’t cut it for airport locations. Airport hotels should really start serving breakfast at 4-4:30 AM to account for early flights (why many people are here to begin with).Outside of meal times, there is an area with soft drinks, snacks, and a coffee machine. The new M Lounge concept is a welcome improvement over the old concierge lounge concept. It provides a relaxing place to take a break or get some work done with a variety of seating.Survey SaysThis is one of the better Marriotts out there. There are some odd quirks, but overall it’s a nice property and offers a 24hr airport shuttle. The views of the bay are very nice as well.
