This. Is. It. The world’s longest scheduled commercial flight. Singapore to Newark clocks in at 9,534 miles. The flight block time depends on the direction and season. However, the flight takes between 17 and 18.5 hours. Today’s flight is blocked at 17 hours and 50 minutes. This ticket was purchased for 1,300 USD originating in Amedabad India.
The day has finally come to start the journey back to the US. We booked AND-SIN-EWR in business class one way for ~1300. If booking this flight just from SIN-EWR would it would of been ~6800. While this wasn’t the specific flight I was excited for, it was getting me one flight closer to taking the world’s longest commercial passenger flight.
I wasn’t to excited for this flight. Air India isn’t know for being a great airline and is perpetually on the verge of collapse (but so is Jet Airways). We headed to the gate at 8:30 AM to clear security and boarded a few minutes after that.
We arrived in domestic terminal 1 from Phu Quoc and walked over to terminal 2. We were quickly checked in and issued our boarding pass and lounge pass. There is no SilverKris lounge in SGN or any Star Alliance airline lounge. However, we were provided passes to a contract lounge which had a nice look but the food wasn’t anything special. About 30 minutes prior to boarding we made our way to the gate.
I was pretty excited when I booked the old suites class from SYD-SIN, but also getting to experience the new suites class on SIN-HKG was a welcome surprise. I was originally booked on the old suites but due to an aircraft swap I was downgraded to business on an A350 (which I’ve flown on IAH-MAN). At the time I was put on the wait list for this flight but it didn’t seem promising. I called up and again explained the downgrade situation and the representative confirmed me in suites!
Singapore Airlines has quite the lounge setup at Changi. There is the KrisFlyer Gold lounge. This is Singapore Airlines Star Alliance lounge (people traveling in economy with status). Then there is the KrisFlyer lounge which caters to people in ticketed business or first class. The lounge is mostly a business class lounge with a section for first class. However, the first class section is meant for passengers ticketed on Star Alliance first class. If you’re ticketed on Singapore Airlines first or suites class there is another room with the first class lounge called The Private Room.
The day has finally come. I get to experience not just first class on Singapore Airlines but suites class! Additionally, this was my first time on an A380. This flight had the old/original suites class. However, this is still one of the best products in the sky.
