I took advantage of various Marriott gift card deals ranging from 15-20% off. Since these gift cards were in USD it’s best to use them locally and not be subject to a bad conversation rates. My fiancé wanted to visit a cold weather destination and Chicago came to mind!
We took the blue line from the airport and arrived at the hotel about 50 minutes later. The JW Marriott is located in the loop which is central to most locations. However, as the loop is a business district many things were closed for the holidays. We walked into the hotel which had a large lobby decorated for Christmas.
I was hoping for low occupancy and an upgrade to a suite. The check in agent noted they were running busier than usual and unfortunately I wouldn’t be upgraded. The agent also noted the lounge would be closed during our stay. We were then provided our keys and went to our assigned room.
This seems to be an older hotel which recently got some new finishes in the guest rooms. Upon entering the room there was a small hallway with the bathroom off to the left and a closet to the right.
The room was spacious with a king bed, small seating area, and a desk area.
The bathroom had a separate shower stall, tub, and toilet room along with a dual vanity and towels under the sink.
The hotel has a spa, pool, and fitness center. These facilities were open but not when I went to check them out unfortunately.
Overall this is a decent hotel in the loop. It’s walking distance to Millennium Park where Cloud Gate is along with various other attractions.
This was a good use of the Marriott gift cards I purchased during a sale. While this hotel is central to most areas staying in the loop is like staying near Wall Street. The surrounding area is pretty quiet outside business hours.
