I boarded through door 1L and turned right. I was in seat 1D which is a bulkhead. If traveling with someone you want to secure two seats together on odd numbered rows as the even numbered rows are staggered away from each other. If traveling alone you’d want to also get an odd numbered window seat as they are closer to the window. The bulkhead seats have the largest foot wells which provide ample space. The bulkheads are row 1 and 9.

I deplaned my KE MNL-ICN flight and was hoping for some type of ground experience including an escort through immigration and to the First Class Lounge as the flight was running late. After all, this was a first class to first class connection. However, that wasn’t in the cards for me today.

I arrived at the gate around 11:50 AM as the lounge attendant instructed me I would need to get a “real” paper boarding pass. To bypass lines at airport check in, I did the mobile check in and printed my boarding pass. I provided the gate agent with my mobile check in boarding pass and passport. She then looked at a separate piece of paper and crossed my name out. This looked more serious than re-printing a boarding pass I thought. She confirmed my final destination was Manila and asked about my return flight. I mentioned I would be returning Friday July 7 on a different airline. She seemed to get more direct and informed me that she must see my return otherwise I wouldn’t be allowed to board. I had to step away to lookup my Korean Airlines reservation. I returned and showed my return reservation and was given my boarding passes.

The big day has finally come! I’ll be flying Asiana business class from SFO-MNL (via ICN) and returning on Korean Air MNL-SFO (via ICN). I did some research before this trip and came to understand while both Korean airlines have excellent on-board products, their ground services aren’t so great. With that said, man oh man were my expectations fulfilled of lackluster ground product.

As a casual flyer with no Star Alliance status I normally spend my flying time hidden among the unwashed masses in economy class. This time was no different as I embarked on a flight to TPE with my girlfriend for a week long vacation.

The day has finally come! I am flying Singapore Airlines first class. Some caveats is I’ll be flying first class and not suites class. Suites class is what is flown on the A380. The only route that has this to and from the US is JFK-FRA to my knowledge. Another caveat is due to the late departure the service is classified as supper opposed to dinner. I’ve read that supper is an abbreviated service and for example, doesn’t include a caviar service (I ain’t mad). With that out of the way, lets begin!

I previously flew United GlobalFirst on a 747 on a trip to Manila (via Tokyo). However, this is my first flight with the new United Polaris soft product. This flight is bitter sweet as the new Polaris seats are set to debut in March 2017 on this exact route. However, this may be my last opportunity to fly on a United 747. Originally the plan was to retire the 747 from the fleet in 2018, but that has now been accelerated to 2017.
I contemplated re-booking this flight from ORD just to experience the first Polaris Lounge, but figured I’d wait until the kinks were worked out and additional lounges were built. The SFO lounge is rumored to be larger as well.

This was my second time in the United SFO GlobalFirst (read: PolarisFirst) lounge. You can read my initial write up here. While the GlobalFirst lounges are much nicer compared to domestic United Clubs, I would say they are just on par with the American Express Centurion lounges. While the American Express Centurion lounges have slightly better food, they tend to be very crowded at times. This is where the GlobalFirst lounges really shine. These lounges are only available to international first class customers on United or Star Alliance flights. While the new Polaris lounge in ORD seems to have much better amenities, they are open to all business class customers and also have reports of being crowded as well.

I’ve been doing a lot of flying, but nothing different than what has been previously posted on this blog. Since I’m not doing this for website traffic, just for sharing new experiences, I decided not to discuss the same flights over and over (you’re welcome).
With that said, let’s start this post off with something interesting.

This is my first time in international first class so I was pretty excited. After reading so many blogs say how first class on US Airlines is a joke, my expectations were lowered which let United surpass them! Continue reading “Review: UA SFO-NRT GlobalFirst”
